How to Put on a Bikini

Are you ready to put on your bikini and hit the beach or pool? Putting on a bikini can be a little tricky. There isn't much fabric to work with, but it has to be in just the right place to keep you covered. Learn how to put on your bikini so it stays snug, as well as prep your body so you look and feel great in your swimwear.

Steps

Part 1

Putting On Your Bikini

  1. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 1
Get undressed from head to toe. Bikinis are meant to bare a lot of skin, so go ahead and get undressed. Remove your bra and underwear, too. Don't attempt to wear your bikini over underwear, since it will be nearly impossible to keep your underwear from peeking out when you're active at the beach or pool.
  2. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 2
Pull on the bikini bottoms. Bikini bottoms usually provide the same amount of coverage as bikini-style underwear. The top edge of the bikini bottoms should sit along your hips, crossing over each hip bone below your belly button. In the back, they should hug your bottom tightly. Depending on the style you're wearing, they'll provide either full or partial cheek coverage.
    • Your bikini bottoms should not sag or droop. If they feel loose, you need a smaller size.
    • They also shouldn't cut into your skin and cause bulging. If they do, try a size up.
  3. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 3
Fasten the bikini top below your breasts. Put on the top as you would put on a bra, fastening the band around your chest first. It might help to put the top on backward so you can fasten the band in the front, then slide it around to position it correctly with the cups in the front.
    • If it's a string bikini, first tie a tight knot, then tie the ends in a bow. Tie it so that the bikini will stay in place, but not so tight that it cuts off your circulation.
    • If the band of your bikini top is loose enough to easily slip your hand through, either tie it tighter or go down a size. If it's so tight that you feel uncomfortable, go up a size.
  4. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 4
Adjust the cups. Rest your breasts right in the center of each cup, to keep them securely in place there. Make sure the fabric of the cups completely covers your breasts; if they feel tight, or your breasts and bulging out from the sides, you might want to go up a size. If they feel loose, try a size lower or choose a padded top. Here are the different types of bikini tops, and how to fasten them properly:
    • Triangle top: This style provides the least amount of support and coverage, and it works best for smaller breasts. Make sure your breasts are positioned in the centers of the triangles. If your top has sliding triangles, slide them over your breasts to make sure the fabric covers your breasts entirely.
    • Halter top: This style provides a more support, making it a good choice for bigger breasts. Position your breasts in the center of each cup, and stretch the cups around your breasts for maximum coverage.
    • Bandeau top: This style is strapless, so make sure you choose the right size so that your top won't slide up or down. Adjust the top so that your breasts fit into the center of the cups. It should hug your chest quite firmly; if it sags or droops, you may need to go down a size or choose a different style top.
    • Underwire top: This style is similar to a bra, and fits much the same way. Position the underwires so that they sit right beneath your breasts, then lower your breasts into the cups.
  5. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 5
Adjust the straps. It's important to adjust the straps so that they keep your bikini top secure and provide support for your breasts. You want the straps to be tight enough to hold your bikini top in place, but not so tight that they dig into your shoulders. Your bikini top should feel as comfortable as a bra.
    • Adjust bra-style bikini straps just as you would regular bra straps. Use the plastic slides on the straps to loosen or tighten them.
    • If the straps are strings you need to tie, it might take a few tries before you're able to tie the knots just right. They should be tight enough to provide support for your breasts, but not so tight they cut into your shoulders. Tie the ends of the strings into bows.
    • Some bikini tops are styled as halters, with two strings that are tied right at the nape of your neck. Again, make sure you tie the strings tight enough to support your breasts without being uncomfortable.
    • If you find that you aren't able to adjust the straps in a way that allows your breasts to be well-supported without causing pain in your shoulders or neck, you may need a different style top. Try a traditional bra-style top with an underwire for maximum support.
  6. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 6
Take a walk around the room to check for slipping and discomfort. Try skipping and jumping, too. You're going to be having fun in the sun, and you don't want to have to worry about your breasts coming loose or your bikini bottoms slipping down. Make adjustments where necessary so you can wear your bikini confidently all day long.

Part 2

Wearing it Comfortably

  1. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 7
Consider removing hair around your bikini line. It might help you feel more confident to know that no hairs will poke out from your bikini bottoms as you're laying out in the sun or swimming in your bikini. Trimming and shaving is a popular way to do it, since it's inexpensive and not painful. You can also consider waxing the area if you plan ahead.
    • To figure out what hair to remove, put on your bikini bottoms and check out the hair that pokes out around the edges. You want to remove enough hair so that your bottoms adequately cover everything that's left.
    • Some people also like to remove leg and armpit hair to feel bikini ready.
  2. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 8
Exfoliate your skin. Since wearing a bikini involves showing off your skin, you might want to baby it a little a day or two before it's time to hit the beach or pool. In the bath or shower, use a loofah or exfoliating scrub to exfoliate your arms, legs and everything in between. This will get rid of dry skin and give you a healthy glow.
    • Use gentle circular motions to exfoliate your skin, rather than scrubbing too hard.
    • Don't forget your back and other hard to reach areas. Use a scrub brush to get to the places you can't easily reach.
  3. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 9
Use a rich moisturizer. After exfoliating, apply your favorite moisturizing lotion to protect your skin from drying out. Your skin will be soft and gleaming when it's time to put on your bikini. As an alternative to moisturizer, try coconut or olive oil to soften your skin.
  4. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 10
Don't forget your sunscreen. Wearing a bikini means using a lot of sunscreen, since most of your body will be exposed to the sun's rays. Apply sunscreen with SPF 16 or higher five to ten minutes before going out into the sun, and reapply as necessary throughout the day. Wearing plenty of sunscreen will prevent you from ending up with a painful burn and provide protection against sun spots and skin cancer.
    • Try waterproof sunscreen if you're going to be swimming. You'll still need to reapply it more than once throughout the day.
    • If you're trying to get a tan, you should still wear sunscreen. Sunscreen prevents you from getting burned, but it doesn't completely stop the sun from affecting your skin. It's much better to get a gradual tan than to get burned first.
  5. Image titled Put on a Bikini Step 11
Take along a coverup. You may not feel like being exposed to the sun and other elements the entire time you're at the beach or pool. Bring along a cute coverup you can throw over your bikini whenever you want. As a bonus, it will protect your skin from the sun, so you won't have to worry about slathering your entire body in sunscreen when you wear it.

How to Look Good in a Bikini

Whether you want to look good for a beach party or you are trying to get ready for bikini season, the desire to look good in a bikini is common for many women. Wearing a bikini can be intimidating, especially since people spend most of their time fully clothed. Luckily, with a little effort, the right fitting suit, and a confidence boost, there are ways for you to look your best so you can focus on having fun in your bikini.
  1. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 1
Eat foods that will reduce bloat. A few days before you plan on wearing a bikini, reduce the amount of carbs and salty foods you take in, such as frozen meals and processed foods. Also, try not to eat gas-producing vegetables such as onions, beans, and broccoli, which may bloat your gut. Instead, try eating cooked spinach, celery, asparagus, and tomatoes, which may actually help you lose water weight because they are diuretics.
  2. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 2
Drink a lot of water. Keeping your body hydrated will not only make your skin look great, but it will prevent water retention that leads to bloating. Drinking water can stimulate your body to release fluids that will create a thinner appearance. You should be drinking at least eight glasses of water each day to stay hydrated, but more if you are sweating or performing physical activities.
    • If you find it hard to drink plain water allday, liven up your drink with a slice of cucumber, a few blueberries, or a lemon.
  3. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 3
Shave all the right spots. The day before you go swimming, be sure to shave your legs, armpits, and especially your bikini area. Shaving the day before may help prevent stinging if you will be going into a chlorine pool or hot tub. Always shave with shaving cream and a sharp razor that has a moisturizing strip to help prevent razor burn.
    • Opt for a professional to give you a bikini wax a week before you plan to be in a bikini to remove all signs of hair. These treatments can be expensive, but they will keep you hairless for your bikini.
  4. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 4
Add in a fitness regime. Whether you do yoga, go jogging, or lift at the gym, find a way to get your heart pumping. Cardio workouts are one of the best ways to shed the pounds to prep for bathing suit season. Exercising is not only good for the outside of your body, but it is vital for your heart to stay healthy. So find an activity that you love and gets your body moving so you can look and feel your best.

Method 2
Finding the Right Fit

  1. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 5
Experiment with different styles and fits. Bikinis come in many different colors, patterns, styles, and cuts that all serve to flatter the body differently. If you're not comfortable with a certain fit, don't be afraid to ask a sales associate to help you find the right size and style for your body type. Try not to concentrate on the tag size, as sizes differ from brand to brand and style to style. Keep in mind, mixing and matching bikini tops and bottoms can help you find the best look.
  2. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 6
Wear a forgiving top. Every woman is made differently, and this means you have to figure out what your body needs from a suit to look its best. Finding a bikini top that is supportive, and will be flattering, is key to looking great in a bikini. Here are some tips to follow:
    • If you are small on top, try tops that have padding or an underwire to accentuate what you do have. You should also look for adjustable straps around the back and shoulders so that you can tighten the top appropriately. Ruffle tops, tri-tops, or bandeau tops are also recommended for you.
    • If you are bigger on top and need extra support, be sure to look for tops that have underwire and wide should straps. These will fit more comfortably than thinner spaghetti straps. Halter tops may be flattering on you as they highlight cleavage. Stay away from strapless bandeau tops and tri-tops.
    • If you have wider shoulders, try to balance out your look by playing up the bottom and keeping the top subtle. Wear bright colors, fun prints, and embellishments on your bikini bottom, and look for a top that has wider shoulder straps.
  3. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 7
Compliment your legs with the perfect bottoms. Fortunately, bikini bottoms come in many different cuts and styles that can flatter your unique body type. Whether you want to lengthen your legs or add dimension, there is a style for you. Here are some tips to follow:
    • If you have shorter legs or a shorter torso, find a suit that will elongate you. Try a suit that is cut high on the thigh, which is meant to make legs appear longer. This look works on curvy hips and straight hips. Vertical stripes can also help to visually lengthen the body.
    • If you have a longer body with even longer legs, try suits that have embellishments at the hips and bust. Swimsuits that come with jewels, ruffles, ties, and bows help add dimension to fill you out. Find patterns that have horizontal lines instead of vertical, and look for bright colors.
  4. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 8
Create curves for a narrow body. If you lack curves on the top or bottom, find a suit that creates some. High-waisted bottoms, bikinis with ruffles and bows, and strapless suits are a great look for you. Try wearing a solid color on the bottom with a fun printed or embellished top to create the illusion of an hourglass figure. Stay away from wearing the same solid-color on the top and bottom and don't wear vertical lines.
  5. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 9
Find a suit with proper coverage. If you are big on the bottom, try a mini-skirt bikini bottom for great coverage. If you want to wear ruffles or bows, save that for the bikini top. Look for bottoms that are smooth and will not add volume to your bottom half. Also, stay away from loud prints and bright colors.

Method 3
Enhancing Your Bikini Look

  1. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 10
Moisturize your skin. Lotion can help revitalize and moisturize dry patches to make your skin look vibrant. Apply a body lotion from your shoulders down to your toes before you put your bikini on. Make sure you rub the lotion all the way into your skin using gentle, circular motions.
  2. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 11
Apply a spray tan. This is a great way to make you look thinner, and cover up any bruises or blemishes. Simply head to your nearest drug store to pick up a spray tan product. To apply, exfoliate your skin with a wash cloth, and then rub or spray on the tanner. Be sure to follow the directions on the package for proper application.
    • If you do not want to give yourself a spray tan, try going to a professional. Most tanning salons offer spray tan services. Keep in mind, they can be expensive.
  3. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 12
Wear a bikini cover-up. A great way to feel more confident, and add style to your bikini look is to wear a cover-up. These come in a variety of styles, such as a cotton jersey halter, a fringe wrap skirt, or a lace kimono. They are the perfect thing to wear when you are not swimming, but just hanging out near the water because they allow you coverage without having to get completely dressed.
  4. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 13
Accessorize with a hat. Sun hats are a great way to protect your skin and look super chic. Try looking for a straw hat to match your bikini vibe. Regardless of what some may think, everyone can pull of a sun hat, especially when it is being worn with a bikini.
  5. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 14
Create the look of a slimmer waist. One way to slim down your waist is to lift the breasts by either wearing a bikini top that has supportive underwire, or by using waterproof medical tape. To use the medical tape, start with the tape under the arm, and bring it inward, pulling the tape so that it lifts your breasts and pushes up your cleavage. You will want to use about three pieces of tape on each side for a secure hold.

Method 4
Feeling Confident

  1. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 15
Give yourself a compliment before you head out. It is best to be in a positive mental state before you leave your house in your bikini so when you arrive to your destination, you are ready to have fun. Hiding in a corner, walking around slouched over, or deciding that you can't reveal yourself in your bikini after all will only keep you from having the great time you deserve. Before you leave the house, look in a mirror, and try saying the following:
    • "I look great in my bikini, and I am going to have fun today!"
    • "I am a very attractive woman and I deserve to feel good about myself."
  2. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 16
Stand up straight. Having proper posture creates flattering lines that will help you look more confident. Simply pull your shoulders back and bring your head up, to look leaner and taller. Imagine your navel being pulled up into your spine to help you pull in your abdomen. Try to remind yourself throughout the day to keep correcting your posture if you find yourself starting to slouch.
    • Even when you are sitting down, you should be practicing proper posture by sitting with a straight back, your shoulders pulled-back, and your chin up.
  3. Image titled Look Good in a Bikini Step 17
Remember that people are focused on themselves. If you are among others in a swimsuit, chances are they are way more concerned about their body than they are yours. Most women have concerns about their bodies and appearance just like you do, and they are also probably looking for ways to look and feel their best in a bikini. If you can let go of your insecurities, and just have a good time, your positive vibes may rub off on those around you to create a more positive atmosphere.
    • When you arrive to your event or gathering, focus on everything except your bikini. Think about the friends you are there to meet and laugh with, the relaxation you want to achieve, or the new memories you are going to create. Concerns about the way you look in a bikini should be at the bottom of your list of things to think about.

How to Be Fashionable at a Pool Party

Whether for work or socially, pool parties are a great way to enjoy sun, people, and fashion. You might have received an invitation to a great pool party, but have no idea what to wear. You want to look your best and be fashionable, but you want to be comfortable. You also want to be a bit practical, if you can help it. Whether you’re a lady or gent, wear what makes you feel great, and you’ll be sure to shine at any pool party.

Part 1

Carrying the Best Accessories

1. Carry a cute, large bag. A large bag is essential for any pool party, as it will hold everything that you might need. Fortunately, your bag doesn’t have to match a theme or even your outfit. Aim for any cute patterns or colors that you like. Just make sure the bag is big enough to hold everything you need – don’t make it too big though.
•Try getting a beach bag that has hidden pockets, that way you can hide any personal items, such as sanitary napkins, or valuables, such as your phone.
•The material isn’t important, although you should consider that your bag may get wet. If you have a leather or suede bag, this might damage the material. Choose what makes you feel great.

2. Wear great jewelry. Just because this is a pool party doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t wear jewelry. Part of being fashionable is wearing the perfect jewelry for the occasion. You want to accessorize, not decorate, so practice moderation.
•Consider simple earrings and a thin, chain necklace.
•Or, go bold and wear a chunky necklace or even a long, beaded necklace with accompanying earrings.
•You can also stack bracelets for a cute look.
•Don’t wear your best pieces to a pool party, as you run the risk of losing them or getting them wet.
•If you’re going to swim, consider putting your jewelry in the secret pocket of your large bag while you’re in the water.

3. Protect your eyes. A simple and always-appropriate accessory for any pool party is a hot pair of sunglasses. You need to protect your eyes from UV rays, and sunglasses scream fashionable. Try to wear some designer sunglasses if you have the money. If not, there are some cheaper imitations of the real deal at most box stores. Get a pair that you feel compliment your face shape.
•A sun hat is another great way to protect your eyes and will also keep the sun off of your face.

4. Wear cute summer shoes. Sandals or flip flops are the most fashionable and practical choices for any pool party. You don’t want to wear expensive footwear to a pool party, as they will surely get wet. Instead, choose less expensive, comfortable shoes that complement your outfit.
•Big, box stores and even discount shoe retailers are a great source of cute summer shoes.

5. Have a funky beach towel. Your beach towel should be fun or brightly colored, and most importantly, it should be big. Your colorful towel will not only attract attention, but it will be big enough for others to sit on while they talk with you. Big, fun towels are inviting, attention getting, and perfect for drying off and soaking up the sun.

Part 2

Dressing to Flatter Yourself

1. Wear your perfect swimwear. Whether you plan to swim or not, you will likely wear some type of swimwear. Put on a bikini or swimsuit that looks good on you. There are several fashionable, flattering, cute options for both types of swimsuits. If you can't decide, consider a tankini, since it's a combination of the two.
•If this is a work-related pool party, a bikini is likely inappropriate.
•If you don’t find a swimsuit that you love in stores, remember that there are thousands of styles available on the internet.
•Choose your trunks, guys. You don’t want to wear swimwear that is too long and baggy. On the other hand, you don’t want to wear a tight, bikini suit. The most fashionable and flattering look is a more fitted trunk that rests above the knee.

2. Dress up. A dress makes for a great pool party outfit. They are lightweight, breathable, one piece, and, of course, fashionable. The dress you choose should be colorful or have a fun pattern. It should also be made of lightweight fabric.
•If you’re plus sized, consider wearing a dress with a smaller pattern and in a cute hi-lo cut, which accentuates all of your beautiful curves.

3. Wear layers. Choosing what clothes to wear to the party can be tricky. If you opt for an outfit, make sure that you wear layers so that you can remove or add them as necessary so that you don’t overheat. You may decide that you’d prefer to wear shorts or capris. Choose a lightweight top or tank top to go with our bottomwear, such as a tank top and denim shorts or capris.

4. Cover up, if you like. You’re at the party and you’ve taken off your outfit, but you’re also not swimming and you want to wear a little something. You might decide that you don’t want to walk around in your swimsuit, but you also don’t want to be fully dressed. A sarong or cover-up is the perfect, fashionable solution. Choose a sarong or cover-up that complements your swimsuit and jewelry, which will allow you to walk around confidently and fashionably.

Part 3

Paying Attention to Details

1. Don't forget your sunscreen. Enjoy yourself at the pool party, but remember to take special care of your skin. Bring your sunscreen with you and reapply as necessary. Remember, sunscreen doesn’t prevent you from tanning, it just shields you from harmful, cancer-causing UV rays.
•If you’re planning to swim, make sure that your sunscreen is waterproof
•You need to reapply your sunscreen at least every two hours.
•Make sure that your sunscreen isn’t expired.

2. Choose a simple hairstyle. You’ll be in the sun, and possibly the water, all day and you want your hair to look great all day (and night). Braids, buns, and ponytails are the perfect look for any pool party, are low maintenance, are easy to fix throughout the day, and will give your hair added waves when you take it down.
•You might also go for the windblown look, which should last all day if you put just a bit of mousse in your hair while it’s wet.
•Get summery beach hair by encouraging natural waves. Take a shower, put in some hair gel or hair spray, and scrunch your hair.

3.Pick the right makeup. If you choose to wear makeup, it needs to be as subtle and natural looking as possible. Only use waterproof makeup, and use it sparingly. The best makeup that you can wear for fashion at a pool party is a good, waterproof mascara. This will open up your eyes and subtly draw attention to them.
•There's also other waterproof makeup, like eyeshadow, eyeliner, brow gel, and concealer.

Fifth lighthouse to shine on South China Sea

China will start operation of its fifth lighthouse in the South China Sea soon, it was announced on Sunday.
Xu Ruqing, head of China's Maritime Safety Administration, said construction of the lighthouse on Meiji Reef is almost complete.
China started to build lighthouses in the South China Sea in May last year, with four now in use on Huayang, Chigua, Zhubi and Yongshu reefs. The most recent project went into operation on Yongshu Reef on June 25.
Speaking in Ningbo, Zhe- jiang province, at an event to mark China Maritime Day, Xu said all five lighthouses are 50 to 55 meters tall and are equipped with the Automatic Identification System, a tool used around the world for marine communication.
The system allows vessels in surrounding waters to receive up-to-date information and send messages to the lighthouses to ask for assistance, he said.
Xu said construction of the lighthouses reflects China's dedication to its responsibility of boosting navigational safety in the South China Sea, a critical maritime and trade corridor linking the Pacific and Indian oceans.
"The five lighthouses will work like the other 2,000 or so lighthouses in China's coastal regions, providing nonstop navigational services for maritime and rescue activities," he said.
Zheng Heping, another official with the administration, added that China will improve the construction of navigational facilities in the sea to improve its capacity for maritime rescue and environmental protection.
The administration will focus on placing beacons at key points of the main international channel in the South China Sea, double-checking data on water depth and meeting the navigational demands of ships, he said.
Li Wen, a beacon expert with more than 60 years' experience, said China has had to innovate to find ways to build lighthouses in areas of the sea that are usually too shallow for such structures.
China is fulfilling its responsibilities to ensure safety in the international navigation channel by setting up the lighthouses in the South China Sea, he said, adding that the international community will benefit from the facilities.

How to Feel Confident in a Bathing Suit

Feeling confident in a bathing suit isn’t really about losing that extra weight or having a supermodel body. Confidence comes from wearing clothes that fit you, and feeling good about who you are. The only thing that's necessary to feel confident in your bikini is choosing the right swimsuit for you, and developing self-confidence.
  1. Find a swimsuit that fits you. This means try on lots and lots of swimsuits until you find the bathing suit that’s exactly the right match for your body - no matter what it might be. It should be the right size for you - no cutting straps or pinching elastic. But it’s also about finding a suit that fits your personality.
    • Pick out the cuts and colors that make you feel most confident, and don’t worry about what’s the current trend or fashion.
    • Mix and match with tankini suits, bikini tops and surfer bottoms, or any other combination that makes you feel happy about yourself.
    • If you've got larger breasts, you may want to find a suit with underwire support. These suits are generally sized by cup size, like your bra.
    • Sales clerks in lingerie departments and upper-end sales departments can often help you determine the best size swimsuit for you.
  2. Shop online. You can often find a wider selection of suits online than in your local stores, and online stores usually allow you to return clothing that doesn't fit as long as you've not worn it. Good retailers often encourage you to call and chat, or instant message with any questions. #*Start by taking your measurements, and then carefully compare them to the measurements shown in the online sizing.
    • It's a good idea to order two sizes of each suit you're ordering, so that you can select the one that fits you best.
    • Ordering online allows you to try on the suit in ordinary lighting, the way you'll actually be seen in it. Try them on when you're in a good mood, feeling confident, and in the privacy of your own home.
    • Move around in your suit before you buy it. After all, you want it to stay in place when you're actually wearing it.
  3. Think about where you'll wear the suit. If you're purchasing a bathing suit for lounging about the side of a pool, you might choose a string bikini or bandeau top that shows off your cleavage. But if you're planning on swimming laps at the gym, or wearing your bathing suit to dive in the surf with your friends, you might need something a little more secure.
  • Remember that swimsuits will expand in the water, so you might want to pick a suit that's a little tighter than you'd like if you're planning to get it wet.

4Accentuate the features you love. Maybe you have great collarbones, or you’re really proud of your muscular arms. Whatever you love about your body, you can find a bathing suit that’s made to flatter it.
    • Vintage swimwear, for instance, often shows off a lot of cleavage while being cut low on the hip.
    • If you’re proud of your legs, try a suit with high-cut thighs. Racer-back bathing suits will show off your strong arms.
  1. Indulge in accessories. Wearing scarfs, sunglasses, broad-brimmed sun hats, colorful earrings or a new pair of wedge heels will help you bring your most glamorous self to the beach. If you’re feeling less than confident in your swimsuit, accessories might be what you need to feel great about yourself again.
    • You’ll want to be realistic when accessorizing with your swimsuit. Attending a pool party, you can go high-glam, but tone it down for a mountain rafting trip.
    • Don’t forget the lipstick! Not only does lipstick help you feel more confident, it usually protects your lips against UVA rays.
  2. Try out different swimsuit coverups. You can have fun accessorizing with swimsuit cover-ups that will allow you to feel more confident in your bathing suit. You can find cover-ups that really bring out the parts of your body you might feel proud of, while hiding the parts you’re not quite comfortable with.
    • If you don’t like showing your hips and thighs, for example, try wearing a colorful sarong wrap around your waist.
    • Sundresses or caftans that slip on over bikinis will flatter almost every body, and prevent you from getting sunburned as well.

Method 2
Developing Self-Confidence

  1. Learn to love your own body. Focusing on what you need to improve before you’ll allow yourself to feel confident is a losing game. Once you realize that your body is perfect, just the way it is, you’ll feel a lot better about putting on any kind of bathing suit.
    • It will help to remember that you’re probably the only one focussing on your perceived flaws. Other people are more aware of whether or not you’re having fun, or appear to be down in the dumps.
    • If you find yourself thinking negative thoughts, force your attention onto something positive. For example, follow the negative thought, “I hate how large my thighs are,” with the positive twist, “but my collarbones are gorgeous.”
  2. Smile. The simple act of smiling communicates self-confidence and friendliness. When you smile, people are more likely to smile back at you. You’ll likely return the smile, and feel more confident.
    • When you’re smiling, your voice will sound friendlier and more pleasant to listen to.
    • Smiling releases endorphins, which bring about good feelings and greater confidence.
    • Laughing is good for your body as well. It stretches your muscles, and helps your release tension.

  3. Don’t spend time with complainers. If your friends are always complaining about their own bodies, chances are you’ll be tempted to join in with them. This won’t do your confidence any favors. Instead, make an effort to hang out with friends who are proud of who they are. Confidence is contagious!
    • Remember, the more you complain about your own perceived flaws, the more you’re likely to start to believe they’re real.
    • If your friends start criticizing their bodies, disengage. Change the subject, laugh it off, and don’t allow yourself to start the cycle of complaining.
  4. Use mindfulness to increase self-esteem. Set the timer for 5-10 minutes, and take that time to meditate on self-compassionate loving thoughts. Deciding to refrain from negative self-judgment is a discipline that needs to be actively practiced and honed over time.
    • An example of a positive meditation that you can focus on might be: “I am loved,” or simply the word “love”.
    • Concentrate on the feeling of your breath. If you start to notice self-judgments entering your consciousness, let them go.
  5. Practice vulnerability. Try wearing clothing that draws attention, such as animal prints, bright colors, or revealing necklines. If you pay attention to how you feel when you wear these “forbidden” clothes, you’ll build courage slowly over time.
    • Wearing clothing that feels revealing to you, like short skirts or low-cut tops, is a way to get used to feeling brave about your clothing choices.
    • It may seem hard at first, but gradually you’ll come to realize that you deserve to be noticed and to be seen.
  6. Notice how you look at others. If you find yourself being hyper-critical of others, chances are you’re being too hard on yourself as well. Instead, try focusing on what you admire about others in their swimsuits. Practice turning your negativity in a new, positive, direction.
    • Try to avoid using this as an opportunity for comparison with yourself. Your goal is to improve your overall kindness, so that you’re more likely to be kind to yourself.
    • This is a way to realize that no 2 bodies are exactly the same: everyone’s body is differently beautiful. This includes your own!

Method 3
Treating Your Body Well

  1. Avoid crash diets. Crash diets usually involve severely restricting your caloric intake for a period of time, with the goal of losing a lot of weight quickly. Sometimes the 500 or 1000 calories-per-day are supplemented with juice "cleanses," diet pills, or diuretics. While the diet might seem to be working at first, most of this weight loss is due to water loss. Meanwhile, your body's metabolism is actually slowing down, burning fewer calories.
    • You won't be able to get a healthy nutritional balance for most crash diets.
    • Crash diets also have a negative consequence on your mental health. Not getting enough calories is likely to make you irritable, tired, and lethargic.
    • You're unlikely to feel more confident when you're not getting the daily nutrition you need.
  2. Don't skip meals. Skipping meals increases the amount of fat stored around the midsection, or belly fat. Eating smaller meals throughout the day, rather than skipping meals, is more likely to result in weight loss, according to clinical research.
    • Skipping one meals leads to being hungrier for later meals, and can result in eating more calories later in the day. This can set off a cycle of overeating, followed by fasting, that can lead to a host of health concerns.
    • Going for extended periods of time without eating will send your body into survival mode: your body will turn to muscle mass for fuel in order to preserve its fat supplies. Clearly, this is the opposite of what you'd like as you prepare for bathing suit season!
  3. Include moderate exercise daily. If you're trying to lose weight to gain confidence in your swimsuit, remember that both diet and exercise have a part to play. Each week, aim for at least 150 minutes (2 hours and 30 minutes) of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise, 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes) of vigorous activity, or a combination of the two.
    • For teens, the amount of exercise recommended is about an hour per day.
    • Choose exercise routines that you can sustain over time, which means doing activities that you like., finding the mix that works best for your body will lead to feelings of confidence, whether it's biking, jogging, swimming, biking, dance classes, or a combination.
    • Include muscle-strengthening activities on at least 2 days per week. Muscle-strengthening activities include weight lifting, resistance training, sit-ups and push-ups, and many yoga classes.
  4. Eat healthily. A healthy diet includes plenty of vegetables and fruits, a good amount whole grains. Make sure to include lean meats and other proteins, such as fish, beans, eggs and nuts. Avoid trans fats and saturated fats, but include small portions of healthy fats from vegetable oils, made from olive, sunflower, peanut, canola, and others.
    • Avoid drinking sugary drinks, including sodas, energy drinks, sweetened coffee drinks. Limit juice to one serving a day.
    • Alcoholic beverages, including wine, beer, and liquor, are high in sugar content as well. Limit your drinks to one per day if you're trying to lose weight.
  5. Stand up straight. Acting confident on the outside will often result in the feelings of confidence inside. In addition, when you sit or stand straight, you’ll improve your blood flow to the brain. You’ll receive more oxygen, which will result in sharper attention and you’ll feel more energetic.
    • Check and see how you are holding your hands. Hands held with palms facing outward are a sign of insecurity.
    • Poor posture, or slouching, presents an impression of poor self-confidence and insecurity. It also makes your muscles work harder, since they’re being held in an unnatural position, and can result in health difficulties over time.

How to Care for Swimwear

Many people do not know how to properly take care of their swimsuit. Furthermore, it’s common for people to overlook or simply disregard the washing and care instructions found on the inside tags. This almost always leads to the wearer’s disappointment and/or dissatisfaction. Whether you spend 50 or 500 dollars on a swimsuit, taking care of your swimwear the right way is completely fundamental to its longevity. Follow these steps and you’ll be able to enjoy your beautiful swimwear for many years to come.
Steps
1.Know that chlorine can ruin your swimwear. Make sure to frequently check your pool and hot tub's chlorine content. If it is too high, the excessive amount of chlorine can break down the spandex of the swimwear, which will ruin the shape of your swimwear. Also, too much chlorine can accelerate fading of the fabric.
2.Steer clear of rough surfaces. Sitting and/or rubbing against textured pool decks and any rough edges can ruin the smooth and luxurious texture of your swimwear.
Avoid getting excess lotions and oils on your swimwear. Sunscreen, tanning oils, and cosmetics can be harmful to swimsuits. Make sure to rinse and wash your swimwear as soon as possible if you do.
3.Rinse your swimwear in cold water after each wear. By rinsing your swimsuits in cold water, you will help remove the excess salt and chlorine. This is an important step to take before washing.
4.Avoid washing swimwear in electric washing machines. Although your washing machine may be set to cycle gently, it could still be way too rough. Washing machines can ruin the shape, fabric, and padding, as well as any delicate embellishments, stones, or beading. Therefore wash your swimwear by hand in cold water; warm water is acceptable too. Always use a mild soap that is meant for delicate fabrics.
5.Gently squeeze the water out of your swimwear after washing. Be gentle and do not wring or twist your swimsuit roughly, as this could ruin its shape.
6.Do not dry your swimwear in an electric dryer. Similar to electric washing machines, electric dryers can be too rough for the fragile material of swimwear. In a shaded and well ventilated area, lay your swimsuit flat out to dry. By laying it flat, you will diminish the appearance of wrinkles and creases.
